I think I'll rant about Fall.

Can you imagine the brisk November air coursing through your lungs with such intensity that you just felt more than alive? The sight of the changing leaves, the color and intensity on the trees. It's a brillaint season, set inbetween the heat of summer and the brutal beauty of the winter. Everyone, dressed in their wool coats, fallen leaves blowing up on the the path behind them, and it's a scene of perfect peace. JMU is an amazing place to watch the seasons change. You can't believe how much I've come to love it here, it makes me want to try in class (unlike my highschool experience). I look forward to the weekends, feel left out when I'm at home, and it's only the first semester. Can you imagine stumbling apon serenity at a school, where a community lives and works together, parties together, and just stays together? Katie was more than right when she said that the leaves on the ground smell like Fall. It's magical actually, and I eagerly await the first snow's descent. One more time, amazing. On another note, songs in the works, I've been feeling inspired lately.

The First Winter

These trees seem to hold the chill.
The memory of fall afternoons,
Daughters run down the hillside,
A simply poetic sunlit view.

Now these winters carry your face.
Throughout life, such waste in passing days.
It’s been four months since the funeral,
Still four more 'til the spring thaw.

What became of your breath after it hit the water?
The steam rose out of the cup like grass from the earth.
Staying up all night to the gentle pull in the breeze,
But only to see a sunrise on the horizon’s birth.

I could stay to taste the garden’s remains,
Preserves on dusty cabinet shelves.
I could feel the summer’s heat beneath snow covered
Ground, ground.

And when it’s just you and I,
I’ll sleep again.

Disclaimer: Honestly, if you are some "random propz" kid who's about to be offended by this, don't even comment with some nonsensical bullshit about how I don't know anything, because it will just prove what a tool you really are.

I stopped updating my xanga, although I was never really that into it, now I'm going to use it to rant on random subjects..

Yet I come back, and what do I see? Four million sad children that think wearing black and trying to call themselves a term they don't understand the basic history of, would rather misrepresent a musical movement that has become a disease in the teenage and music community, than actually understand who they are by finding themselves. Yeah, I think we all know the word is "emo", short for emotional hardcore, which isn't wearing stupid clothes and listening to pop-punk bands with a slight screamo influence, but rather a genre of music that broke off from the hardcore punk movement in the 80s, started by bands such as Fugazi and Rites of Spring.

First of all, I find it hard to believe that bands such as My Chemical Romance, Senses Failed, and Hawthorne Heights could represent a mindset of an entire generation. To call yourself an individual, yet listen to this crap that the media basically throws at you (oh, it's where you get your so called "unique" image too) and expects you to gobble up like a fat kid in a free candy store, is a hypocritical statement in itself.

If you're so individual, grow yourselves a collective spine. You aren't a supressed group of persons. A vast majority of you are suburban kids with no reason to be sad. You are amazingly well off. The price you pay for a few cds and t-shirts and those stupid pins, buttons, patches, and stickers every week is more than some people have to live off of. Where do you get off on being so selfish? Like you don't have enough attention at home, like you're so unpopular, like the music you listen to about incredibly dull and overused topics defines you, and only you. Like no one else has ever felt sad after getting broken up with, or felt that the world is against them. Your whole life revolves around living in yesterday's regrets, rather than looking towards the future, seeing what you have today, and making the most of what you can be, what you are, and what you can do. Music isn't meant to define you. Corporations are only out to get your profit, they dont care how you feel. If you think otherwise, ask and executive board member over at Victory Records. They will spit in your face, and you'll still buy their newest shit, because it's a representation of "who you are" and how you're "feeling". For those of you with diagnosable clinical depression, you should know better than to think these bands are speaking to you as well.

Singer/songwriter Elliot Smith commited suicide due to depression, but did he want his music to tell you who you should be? No, he wrote music to entertain, and for himself. Music that truely speaks to you shouldn't have an image attached to it. Commercialism is killing music. Look past what they are showing you and listen to what the bands really are. Cookie-cutter music, with the same generic guitar lines, drum loops, and awful vocals splayed out over awful lyrics. Is that really all you want to be? A pre-fabricated, cow to the slaughter, trite individual, who no matter how one-of-a-kind you think you are is always going to be the exact same as a million others?

See past what they are selling you, don't let image define your life. Stop living in your past mistakes, or heartbreaks, and love what you have today.
